Canadian lenders apply OSFI’s B-20 stress test: you must qualify at your contract rate plus 2 percentage points (or 5.25%, whichever is greater on conventional originations). Even though your actual payment is at the contract rate, the lender approves you only if the higher payment fits within 39% GDS / 44% TDS.
